NIGERIA: E CHOKE!
An Ode To Home
Nigeria, home to 200million+ people,
richly blessed with natural resources,
unique, brilliant and incredibly talented individuals,
an alluring culture with diverse native languages,
but plagued by corruption and gross incompetence.
Nigeria, a dwarfed giant, a distant shadow of herself,
far off who she knows she is and can be.
Royalty crippled by her Lust,
Greed and Inhumanity.
Nigeria, two and the half years of knowing you,
I can’t recall a time you stood tall as the giant you claim to be.
More than half a century of independence,
yet your people want for basic amenities.
Nigeria, reputation smirched, debt scandalously high,
insecurity the new normal,
cost of living is literally killing the people.
Where did it all go wrong?!
Nigeria, I hear of a time when you were great,
your voice respected and people prosperous,
where has the time gone?
Apparently, those who lived that time loved it,
so much so they making sure no other generation sees it.
Nigeria, I’m scared, scared of what you are right now
and what you can become if something isn’t done,
but more importantly, I’m pained,
cause I know what you can be if guided right.
Everyday your future leaves you in mass,
abandoning you to your evils,
due to the injustices you dole out on them.
What will become of you if we all leave?
Nigeria, after all, you’re but a territory,
nothing without her people.
Land flowing with milk and honey.
but her bees have failed her.
Sixty-Two years of independence,
Twenty-Three years of democratic rule,
and One civil war later,
we still allow ourselves to be divided
by religion and ethnicity/ethnic differences.
Nigeria, are you not tired?
Our Mumu never too much?
We have another opportunity to try fix things,
to make home feel like home again.
To make sure the sacrifice of our heroes past,
aren’t in vain.
