Missing Childhood

The eagerness to grow as kids, and as adults, the desire to be kids again…

As kids we mostly led happier lives compared to life as adults. We spent more time playing, eating, sleeping, basically doing whatever we wanted, we literally ran the house and everyone did our bidding.

We started to grow and not much changed except for the desire to grow up quickly so that we could be respected and stop being spoken to or treated like babies, some of us even had discussions with friends on how we were going to be super rich and successful by 25, as we all know, it’s never always the case. The absence of fear and doubts we had, when we made those declarations are some of the perks of being a child, we just believed everything was possible. As adults we look back on those times and miss them.

I miss it all, the laughs, cheers, I miss waking up in the morning and having ‘what’s for breakfast’ as my only worry.

I miss the tricks and innocent tactics we employed playing with friends or trying to get our way, I miss being innocent and oblivious to the evils of the world.

I miss playing in the sand, the wishful thinking and also re-enacting scenes from our favourite movies or wrestlers.

Just like a plant that is being watered a child must grow, and with it, the image of the world it knows starts to fade and the real world starts to unfold.

The innocence is taken away, a life of Zero worries is replaced by one with endless worries.

Plays in the sand become rumbles in the work place, wishful thinking is replaced with logical and practical thoughts brought to you by reality.

Life becomes a roller coaster of emotions, laughs, cheers turn to worries, fears and back again.

Soon the child you once knew is dead, and is replaced by an adult, who acts like its got everything figured out, when in reality it doesn’t know Jack.

While I believe it’s proper that we think and behave as adults should, I also think it would do us no harm if occasionally, we become kids again.
