Everyone writes, anybody can get a paper and a pen and scribble words down. Unfortunately, not everyone is a writer.

The ability to seamlessly articulate feelings, thoughts, ideas into words that not just captivates it’s reader, but also excite and entertains, is a skill that’s harnessed and possessed by a select few. You could say these gifted few are touched by the gods. The scope of their ability is limitless, it goes as deep and as far as their minds run.

This craft isn’t about big vocabularies or glandulous statements, it’s about neatly piecing together every bit of us, molding it into a beautiful but yet simple piece of art that informs, entertains and educates.

The Shakespeares and Nerudas of this world have been able to carve for themselves their own world, one with its own uniqueness. A world where there’s literally a piece of everyone in it, a world we can all relate with. It’s pure artistry.

I like to think every writer leaves a bit of themselves in their work. Be it Poems, Screenplays, articles, novels etc. Whichever form of writing one implores, if you look closely you can see just enough of the writer in the piece. It’s usually more in what wasn’t said than what was, so it’s only visible to the keen observer.

My favorite thing about writing is the freedom to create. The liberty to delve deep into parts of human experience most wouldn’t dare to explore, portraying them through any lens of our choosing. Freedom to make fantasies seem like reality and reality like fantasies.

Words are powerful, and this implies that those who wield the ability to bend it to their will, are powerful, even more than most. Nonetheless, with great power comes great responsibility and as writers it’s important we understand the kind of power we posses and how important it is to use it wisely, ’cause it can make or break others. Our minds are our wands and scepters, so guard it and wield it properly, for the scope of its abilities are ineffable, its limits unknown even to us.

As writers, we can live in the world we envision, basking in the creation of our own mind, but we’ll do well not to lose ourselves in it and become oblivious to the world around us. Honestly speaking, a lot of what we do is inspired by the world around us, so it’s necessary we stay grounded, live x laugh x love.
